Why WebP instead of chasing AVIF today

AVIF often wins the lab. Encode support in random browsers is still the annoying part. WebP encode is available in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. That is the set of people who will actually open your product image. We would rather ship a WebP you can use than an AVIF you cannot create.
